The '''Ark Chasm''' is a subterranean cavern beneath the Antarctic ice, reached by American drilling in 1958 under [[Project FURNACE]] and named two years later. [[Site AZAZEL]] was subsequently built above it.

In the central chamber, a sealed door bearing symbols reminiscent of Revelation 12.

== Interior ==

Geometry described in every surviving survey as non-Euclidean and assessed as designed to induce vertigo. Inverted iconography in the side tunnels: trees rooted in the sky, burning haloes. A central terminus of absorbing black glass which returns no light, including light fired directly into it.

The corridor to the central chamber holds calcified human remains predating all recorded access.

== Assessment ==

The standing assessment, unrevised since 1960, holds that the structure is not a tomb but a '''mirror''': a security system operating on semiotics rather than force, designed to reflect an observer's fears back at them and halt progress by that means.
