The Apple is what remained when The Beast was unmade by Operation LAST LIGHT.
Description
A common red apple. Approximately eighty grams. Slight asymmetry. Short stem with one leaf.
Spectroscopy returns fruit. Radiography returns fruit. It has a core, it has seeds, and the seeds are viable. It is neither warm nor cold. It has not decayed and has not measurably changed since recovery.
Effects
Contact induces visions, mutation or insanity. Sustained proximity confers anomalous properties on exposed personnel, which is the operating principle of Unit-07 Nephilim and the reason that unit exists.
The object cannot be moved by any method attempted. Site AZAZEL was built around it because the alternative was to leave it unguarded.
The difficulty
It is not that the object is strange. It is that it is not.
Every instrument the Department owns reports fruit. The entire installation, the four levels, the two thousand metres, the standing formation and the annual appropriation, exist because that answer cannot be accepted.
Standing position of the Office for Theological Affairs
OTA has filed the same assessment annually since 1983. The object is not an anomaly, a weapon or a resource. It is an offer, it has been made once before, and the Office recommends against acceptance.
The assessment has never been actioned.
