The Arctic Silence Accord (1969) sealed Ark Chasm permanently by agreement between the United States and the USSR, following a failed Soviet incursion which ended in disappearances and equipment failure.

The event was erased from all records on both sides.

The Accord marks the opening of the secret thaumaturgical cold war: a conflict conducted entirely through deniable proxies, in which both parties publicly maintained that the site did not exist while privately constructing the institutions required to take it.

It held for fourteen years, and was not broken by either signatory. the 1983 harmonic event broke the seal from the inside in 1983.
