The Ark Chasm is a subterranean cavern beneath the Antarctic ice, reached by American drilling in 1958 under Project FURNACE and named two years later.
In the central chamber, a sealed door bearing symbols reminiscent of Revelation 12.
Interior
Geometry described in every surviving survey as non-Euclidean, aggressive and singular, and assessed as designed to induce vertigo. Inverted iconography in the side tunnels: trees rooted in the sky, burning haloes. A central terminus of absorbing black glass which returns no light, including light fired directly into it.
The corridor to the central chamber holds calcified human remains predating all recorded access.
Assessment
The standing assessment, unrevised since 1960, holds that the structure is not a tomb but a mirror: a security system operating on semiotics rather than force, designed to reflect an observer's fears back at them and halt progress by that means. Entrants are not intruders. They are inputs.
