Vostok Station is a Russian research station in central Antarctica, sited at the Southern Pole of Cold on approximately 3,700 metres of ice above subglacial Lake Vostok.

The proximity is not accidental on either side. Vostok has held continuous Soviet and Russian presence since 1957, which is the year Project FURNACE was launched, and Departmental assessment has never accepted the station's stated glaciological remit at face value. GRU Division P is understood to maintain personnel there under scientific cover, and Vera Dragunova took her retirement posting at a Russian Antarctic station rather than return home.
The two installations have coexisted for four decades without either government acknowledging the other's purpose.
